Julep Spring Mystery Box

Hello!

So, no beating around the bush… I have a pretty boring polish to show you today. I’m not even going to try and be excited about this one because I’m not really. Julep Kelly is a pale blush cream…yup thats it lol. The first time I bought any Julep was when I found an awesome deal on Groupon…or Living Social (one of the two) probably back in November. I think Julep has good quality polishes, but they’re over priced and nothing really special. I did get suckered into their Spring Mystery Box for $19.99 last month. I figured why not give it a try since one polish alone is $14, so I might as well play my cards here and hope to atleast like something in the box. Well, here is what I got:

My Julep box contained cuticle oil, clear top coat, Gayle, Melissa, Kelly and some (not so yummy) chocolates.

I know I’m really late with posting about my box, but I was pretty disappointed in the colors and wasnt even going to bother. Then I had a swatch of Kelly in my drafts so I figured why not post the whole box with it.

The best part about the box was the cuticle oil and top coat in my opinion. I was very let down on the colors I received. I figured for a “Spring” box I would receive much brighter colors…not an eggplant color like Gayle. Not a fan of Melissa either..I like the look of pearlescent colors in bottles, but on the nail they don’t really work out all that well. Plus it looks like they reused Melissa from their previous St Patty’s Day boxes.

Soooo…here is the one polish I wasn’t completely annoyed at…Kelly.

I might try another Julep Mystery Box sometime in the far future…but for now I think I have my fill of Julep.

Anyone else buy into the Mystery Box? What did you get in yours??

That’s an ok color, but I don’t think it would be for me. Sorry you were disappointed in your box! I’ve never ordered any of the beauty boxes.

The boxes overall are cute and decently put together, its just the colors that were disappointing. Luckily for what I paid I got back by just the top coat and cuticle oil so it wasn’t a complete loss.

Adding glitter crossed my mind too…but I was too grumpy to give it any extra effort lol

I actually like this color. But I can make a mess applying Julep because of the long stem (I guess)- a lot comes off at once. I do the Maven thing and I like it, but I haven’t run into any problems yet. I’ve been hearing a lot lately about problems bloggers are having- from disguided info on promo codes, defected brushes, broken bottles, etc) so I’m getting a little discouraged. I guess when I encounter my first run-in with Julep then my perecption might change. I enjoy getting my box each month and am happy with the colors I get. And I don’t eat the chocolates lol…

I had heard a lot of issues that bloggers were having around the time I had purchased Julep for the first time. It made me a little apprehensive, but turned out I had no issues with them. The Maven Box is a lot more reasonable than buying their polishes individually, but I buy so many other polishes already I don’t want to have an automatic monthly replenishment of polish…it feels a little overwhelming lol.
P.S. Good choice on passing on the chocolates, not the most pleasant taste I’ve had.

That purple looks nice but nothing special. I am not overly thrilled with the bottle. I’m clumsy. I bet I could spill it just looking at it.

I’m always more cautious on spilling their bottles too because of the shape. I end up just holding it most of the time lol, but I’ve knocked their bottles over countless times (cap on luckily)

I really like that eggplant color, but I agree, it’s far from a spring color! I hate removing their polishes. For me, they ball up, smudge around and act like acrylic paint as soon as the acetone touches them, and it takes at least double the amount of cotton balls & remover to get them off.

Never had any problems with their removal, but I don’t really wear their polishes often. I know I’ll give Gayle a chance, but not any time soon…its spring time :)

I’m glad you were satisfied with the cuticle oil and top coat! Sad that the colors weren’t as up to par.

If it wasn’t for those two I’d for sure be pissed rather than disappointed. The cuticle oil is actually really good too lol.

At least this is a good base coat for all those crazy glitters out there!!! Epic fail on “spring” colors :(

    1. Frosso

      Yea, majorly epic fail :(

That’s too bad it was disappointing. I’ve been interested but discouraged with Julep due to the reviews I’ve seen about problems and uninspired colors. I’m with you- I wouldn’t necessarily want an automatic replenishment of polish, especially when you don’t get to choose the colors. I always like trying new cuticle oil and topcoat I guess is always good although I kinda like what I like and don’t wanna try a bunch of new clear polish, but… what can ya do. I might try one in the future if there’s a groupon deal or something, otherwise I’m passing.
