Hey Everyone!
Today I have my very first ever Deborah Lippmann polish!! Thanks to Nouveau Cheap and her quick posting on Facebook I picked up a mini duo set on clearance for $10 from HSN a few weeks ago. The set includes Lady Sings the Blues and Today Was a Fairytale. Probably my biggest lemming on my want list is the “Let’s Get This Part Started” trio set, so I still have to wait on those until someone magical gives it to me or I just finally buy it myself. I was still happy to try out some DL polishes in mini size for so cheap though.

Deborah Lippmann Lady Sings the Blues
Lady Sings the Blues is a navy blue polish with silver macro and larger hex glitter. Formula was great, especially for a glitter. Just based on that I understand why Deborah Lippmann is so pricey, but worth the money…you are definitely paying for quality. I used two coats, there’s really no reason to go past two since coverage was so great with this formula. I highly suggest a clear top coat as it does dry a little bumpy and not too shiny.

Other than the amazing formula, I’m not as excited as I thought I’d be about this polish. It bothers me that the glitter gets swallowed up by the navy base and isn’t suspended as much as I’d like. Most of it still shows through, but I’m kind of “eh” about it. I think it would have been prettier if the silver glitter wasn’t so eaten up. Maybe I’m just spoiled from all those indie glitters….

This is pretty but I think you’re right, we are kind of spoiled with all those indie glitters

Yea, I would have been pretty disappointed if I paid for a full sized bottle, but I’m ok with it. Still not an Indie glitter though

I actually brought back my DL polishes today and traded them for Nars Lipsticks. After staring at them for three months they just didn’t match the excitement of my impulse birthday buy! I asked myself, why exactly did you spend $18 plus tax on each of these?

lol good choice…considering your polish count outweighs your lipstick count anyways.

Ooh glad to hear the quality is good for your money and that you got a good deal on the ones you got!

I can see what you mean about the glitter. Still pretty on you nonetheless!

I have a few of hers, and I really am “meh” about them. I feel that way about Butter London, too. I think the price tag is just impossible to live up to.

Its good to hear you say that cause I thought I was crazy since everyone loves DL. I feel the same about Butter London too. I have 3 and they aren’t as amazing as I thought they would be, except for The Black Knight (it chips quick though), which is why I started buying BL in the first place.

It actually looks a lot prettier in the bottle than on the nail. In the bottle it looked like beautiful fish scales and then on the nail…. just swallowed up, like you said. Darn. Well, it’s still pretty and at least the formula was good.
They all can’t knock your socks off, I guess.

Its kind of a good thing, this made me less eager to buy a DL polish! Although I still want the “lets get this party started” trio more than almost anything haha. Other than that I’m ok with passing on the rest.

I have to say, I love it in the bottle but not nearly as much on the nail :/

I would have been bummed about this polish too. I like the idea of it but definitely don’t like that all that glitter just falls flat and is covered up. (Yes, this is Cynthia. lol) Uhm, I don’t think I will ever really pay full price for DL polishes. I have 4 that I got on super clearance but that’s it. I might get Ray Of Light one day….

Haha well even if you’re a glitter hater (or former in your case) I would expect a bit more from this polish.
